Torres toys with Tapia

You're a great fighter if you can throw most of your weapons out the window and still destroy a top level opponent. WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres stayed on the feet and controlled the first and part of the second round solely with his jab. Torres threw a few kicks, attempted less than 20 rights and shot for zero takedowns over the first 5 1/2 minutes. When he did bring the right behind his jab it was over for Tapia. Torres retained his title with a TKO win over Manny Tapia at 3:04 of the second round.

Torres landed a huge right just over a minute into the second that floored Tapia. The Riverside-native got to his feet but he wasn't all there. Torres unleased a combo featuring a right straight down the pipe that floored Tapia again. A half-dozen more shots on the ground and fight was over.

In the previous fight, Waggney Fabiano turned in a successful debut but it wasn't exactly earth-shattering. Fabiano basically worked for an arm-triangle choke for 14 minutes and 45 seconds against Akitoshi Tamura. He finally got it at 4:49 of the third round. Fabiano, another IFL import, scored a takedown early in the first two rounds and did a lot of laying and praying.
