Photo: Benson Henderson celebrates UFC lightweight title with his mom

Benson Henderson and his mom (Tracy Lee)

When Benson Henderson walked out of the cage after winning the UFC lightweight title, he walked right past security and the UFC staff who was directing him towards the locker room. He had to go celebrate with the woman who has supported him throughout his career: his mom.

In a sweet moment, Henderson hugged his mother. She pulled back and grabbed at his belt, bursting with pride over her son's accomplishment. Henderson provided another great performance in beating Frankie Edgar, but didn't forget to say thank you to his mom.

He admitted that he did hear her cheering during his fight.

""My mom has a pretty distinct voice. I can hear her everywhere," Henderson said.

I see Ben as the People's Champ. Very humble and down to earth. Good for him.

There is nothing humble about Benson Henderson. Down to earth? The guy believes that God helps him win his fights, how is that down to earth? It certainly isn't humble either to believe that the most powerful entity imaginably cares that Benson Henderson wins his MMA fights. The guy has angel wings tattooed on his back and you're calling him humble?

Anything but humble. Do you not see the way he showboats in his celebrations? It's annoying, but good fighter.

What a Champ! Kind, humble and a Momma's boy. Priceless! I hope he reigns for a long time!

Anyone else notice that WEC last title Contenders and holders, hold all the belts south of middle weight and if Sonnen wins they will have that as well.

Condit is a fake chamop until he beats GSP. LW, yes. Everything south of LW didn't even exist in the UFC until the merged with WEC.

Great story. I really respect that she took a bad situation and made it better by working hard, supporting her 2 kids, and respecting their decisions to do what they want to in life. It's stories and people like these that make this a great country in its most ideal form.

Real men always remember who helped them when they were down and not when who is there when they're up.....good man!

To Nick Diaz: This is how to be a Champion in and out of the Octagon.

I don't know how Edgar could even think he won that fight... He was exposed for being a sore loser during the interview.
      • Cameron 2 months ago
Nothing he said in the post fight interview was anything but respectful to Ben - All he said was that he thought he had done enought to win the fight. Is your comment based on anything factual or are you just looking for attention from random people on the web?

What a sweet moment! He's a momma's boy and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The one woman you should always treat like a queen outside of your wife, of course.

I really admire Ben Hederson, because instead of becoming like his dad and follow his dad's behavior, he chose to become a better person. No alcohol, no smoke. This is why I do not believe alcoholism or drugs additions are hereditary, people do those things, because they chose to do them. No excuses.

This really was the best story leading up to the fight by far. Made u like BenHendo as a person. I like that he's a reader.

I am still shocked someone robbed Henderson's house. Does anyone remember that? I mean who would dare try to mess with that guy? Nice to see gentleman and ladies giving thumbs up to guys showing they can love their mama. couldn't have been a greater reward for a great person, but I think Edgar is just as much a class act as Henderson. Both great champs. Screw what people say, Edgar stay at lightweight cause you are a much better fighter than at featherweight. Plus, you would get murdered by Aldo.

Benson is such a better role model than Frankie

Notice Joe "cokehead" Rogan kissin Edgars sack the entire fight cheering about Edgar catching Hendos kicks? Reachin for kicks is a bad habit which opens an opponent up for head kicks. Edgar must have been high as hell to think he won that fight. He got his little #$%$ spanked!

Incredible fight by Ben Henderson. I thought we might see Edgar comeback as he had against Maynard after getting his eye and nose smashed in rounds one and two but that never happened.
