Overeem vs. Rodriguez? Not so fast, says Team Overeem

As we mentioned Wednesday, it was reported that Strikeforce heavyweight Alistair Overeem would face Ricco Rodriguez in Dream 15 on July 10 in Japan. Now, Overeem's camp is saying that he is not fighting Rodriguez.

From MMAjunkie.com:

"IF he's going to fight, he's probably not going to fight Ricco Rodriguez," De Jong today told MMAjunkie.com.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the bout Tuesday after sources close to the event said DREAM was scheduled to announce it Wednesday.

DREAM.15 takes place July 10 bout at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Rodriguez's agent, Ken Pavia, today said that he holds a signed contract for the bout. De Jong, though, said there's no such paperwork on his side.

"We didn't receive any contract," he said. "[Dream] proposed Ricco Rodroguez, but they didn't send a contract, and definitely we did not sign it."

To that, Cagewriter says, "Phew." Overeem is much too talented of a fighter to face someone like Rodriguez, who is working to rebuild his reputation.
