Officer Mike Russow takes UFC on Fox 2 decision

012812russowCHICAGO -- Mike Russow did his city proud with a decision victory at UFC on Fox 2. The judges scored it 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 for Russow, causing loud cheers from the crowd at the United Center.

Russow started with a quick takedown. When they returned to their feet, Russow was aggressive, landing a combination before clinching up with Einemo. He moved inside with strikes, and then got another takedown. From there Russow controlled Einemo until the last five seconds, when Einemo briefly reversed position before the round ended.

The second round started much like the first, with Russow getting a quick takedown. Russow briefly stood up and towered over Einemo, but returned to controlling him on the ground. They were stood up with 22 seconds left in the round, but Russow returned to the takedown that served him well for the first two rounds.

Einemo was more aggressive in the third round, and nailed Russow with a knee and a punch. Russow got the takedown again, but had more trouble with it. When on the ground, Einemo came close to take Russow's back, but Russow slipped out of it. Russow controlled Einemo for most of the round, but the two were stood up with just over a minute left. Einemo hit Russow with a knee, then Russow used the next knee for another takedown.

Russow is a full-time member of the Chicago Police Department and took a month off from the department to prepare for this bout. He's now 4-0 in the UFC and 15-1 overall. Einemo, a member of the famed Golden Glory camp, has lost both of his UFC bouts.

Two things. One, for all those complaining about these fights have no clue about MMA. Grappling is part of the sport. Some of us like that part of the sport. Not all fights will be finished. That's just the way it is.

Second, Russow has won 11 straight. Why is no one calling for him to get a title fight like they did when Shields or Diaz won that many???? Go ahead, answer it and be a hypocrite.

I agree with you on this. Russow deserves to fight top ranked opponents.

Because Inoue, Corbbrey, Denny, Shamrock, Smith, Zaromskis, Sakurai, Noons and Santos are so much better than Harper, Decorah, Harman, Campbell, Zentsov,Guida, Bice, McCully, Duffee, Madsen, and Einemo?? As I said. Hypocrite. Oh, all but 2 of those fights he either won by T/KO or submission.

Nice Tim :-] What you don't know is that he took vacation and comp time to train. He can do this sort of thing on his own time. Ohhh, my bad Tim. You are an occutart 99 percenter that has nothing to do but complain about his lot in life. It is not on the taxpayer's dime punk. He earns his vacation and comp time by dealing with low-lifes for a living....not a class act like you. It is his vacation that he has earned. I guess you work at a job that doesn't offer vacation, comp, sick leave or the like. Do something about that Tim before you go spouting off about your professional failings. I'd like to hop in the Octagon or walk into an alley with you while I'm on vacation and perhaps teach you some respect.

HA!! Thanks for the post Austin, Texas. Mike's from my neighborhood.....he's a hard working, blue colar kinda guy. He does this on his own dime, not on CPD time or $$$. Most fighters do. They don't make nearly enough as a fighter to sustain themselves or their families, so they're forced to keep they're "normal" jobs.

Does Einemo have a first name? Maggie, you need to use a person's full name on first reference in an article.

Yeah, really. I was thinking thing same thing as I started reading the article. It's like an entire introductory part about who was fighting was taken out. Poor journalism.

so lesnar was crap and fedor was overrated and never good because he didnt fight these chumps in the ufc?? not many good heavy weights in the ufc. ufc must be hoping jds last more than 6 seconds against overeem otherwise the ufc greatness looks quite pathetic. particularly if cain loses again

OH shut up #$%$ Fedor freaking lost 3 times and 1 of those was to Dan Henderson who was with the UFC before and is now back with the UFC and Henderson is not even a real Heavy weight. He fights at 185 and Henderson is old and aged and battered from ove 20 years of competition. Fedor is not that good at all... Move on troll... Fedor couldn't last in the UFC for 1 round. The top 3 or 4 heavy weights in the UFC would destroy Fedor!! Why do you think after the UFC offered Fedor more money than ever to fight in the UFC and prove himself to the world that he turned it down??? He had his chance and passed it up, Then lost his next 3 fights, one to a middle weight!

Presently, I'd bet on Russow against either Fedor or Lesnar, and you can add Frank Mir to that as well.

Love your comment! fedor is the best! And all those #$%$ UFC chumps, should probably flip burgers in a bbq or something. They suck!

I'll give it to these guys that they went the distance, but they looked insanely sloppy doing it. Put either of them against a top teir heavyweight and it is lights out, or someone like Mir would have broken an arm off. No matter what weight class you are in endurance needs to be an important part of your training camp. Awesome the Chicago cop one in his hometown, but really man? You are looked upon by your community to chase criminals and with that gut and squad gear around your waste how effective will you be when you (if you) catch up to that criminal? He would have been way more effective had he not ran out of gas. GSP, Silva, Jones, Edgar, Aldo, etc are all able to hang in there due to their endurance and continue to show off their skill without dropping their hands or losing points to exhaustion. It isn't pure skill keeping them at the top. If that was the case BJ Penn, Anthony Johnson, Thiago Alves, Big Country, and other endurance challenged fighters would be the title holders. When are these other fighters gonna learn? They are in the big leagues and need to start acting like it. This is the one sport where every single body part is needed to succeed. I'd take $40,000 a year to get my but kicked if someone would sponsor me and give me the opportunity. Better than sitting at a cubicle. Drives me crazy when athletes take a situation and exploit it.
      • CocoRossi 3 months ago
Russow would beat Mir. Mir's only hope would be a submission, and he wouldn't get it. Mark my word; if this match is ever made, Russow will be the winner. In a match with Mir, Russow is the superior athlete.

FOX paid way to much money to have crap fights like this on their network... What a mediocre card this was. Fire works is what fans want.... Lousy for new fans tuning in to FOX.... $750 million for what. I am sure that FOX has an escape clause in their contract. AS IN LOW RATINGS NO MORE UFC ON FOX AND CANCELATION OF CONTRACT... Wake up Dana.

I can't believe Mike "Moobs" Russow beat J.O.E!
Guess I am eating my words saying Einemo would win. I thought he was a "world class grappler" ?

Another fight that could cure insomnia. Fox is sh$tting their pants. They picked up a sport on the decline at the worst possible time.
