Jon Jones injured, UFC title fight against Daniel Cormier postponed

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will have to wait a few extra months to get their hands on one another again. The two bitter rivals were set to fight for Jones' light heavyweight UFC title Sept. 27 but an injury to the champ has forced the UFC to postpone the bout until Jan. 3, according to a new report.

Fox Sports 1 first reported the news of Jones' injury and MMA Fighting expanded on it with additional details. According to that report, Jones sprained an ankle and suffered a torn meniscus during a wrestling practice Monday.

Cormier responded to the news by saying, "It's very disappointing."

"I started to train very hard. It's a little discouraging, but now I have time to get completely healthy. I don't know how hurt Jon is but we have to remember that I took this fight with a pre-existing injury. I could have fought through it, I just wish he would have done the same."

Cormier himself opted out of corrective knee surgery in order to replace Alexander Gustafsson after the Swede injured one of his knees and had to pull out of a Sept. 27 title rematch against Jones. It is unknown, at present, if Cormier will opt to get his knee surgery now that his fight against Jones has been delayed, or if he will continue to rehab and train with his injured ligaments.

We will keep you posted as news develops with this story.
