Dana White talks Richard Sherman & Ronda Rousey
Both All-Pro NFL cornerback Richard Sherman of the Super Bowl-bound Seattle Seahawks and UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey are known nearly as much for their outspoken natures as their athletic excellence. It is little surprise, then, that UFC president Dana White is a fan of both.
During a recent interview on 790 The Ticket radio show, White defended both Rousey's refusal to shake rival Miesha Tate's hand after their UFC 168 rematch as well as Sherman's loud taunts after the Seahawks' NFC championship win over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.
On Rousey turning down Tate's handshake:
"That was her own decision. It's not about being an ungracious winner...Ronda said it best. She said, 'I didn't like her before the fight, I definitely don't like her after the fight, and nobody is going to boo me into shaking her hand.' Period. End of story...Ronda is mean and nasty, that's who she is. And she couldn't care less what anyone thinks."
On Sherman's hyped-up post-game interview and taunts:
"And as far as the Richard Sherman thing goes, that was awesome! The guy has probably been playing football since he was eight years old, dreamed about going to the Super Bowl and goes head-to-head against the guy who was trash talking him. And he pulls off, in my opinion, the best play of the game to send his team to the Super Bowl - that was a touchdown pass. He was fired up, got on TV and let everyone know about it. I wish the Patriots were that fired up that day."
Rousey next fights at UFC 170 in February when she will defend her title against fellow Olympian Sara McMann. Sherman, of course, will suit up next on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2nd, or, as MMA fans know it, the day after UFC 169.
