Tim Boetsch is one rough customer but he met his match on this night. Jason Brilz didn't offer much on the feet in the first round but when he decided to take things to the ground in the second and third rounds it was sayonara for "The Barbarian" Boetsch. Brilz, a former All-American wrestler at Nebraska-Omaha, easily passed Boetsch's guard and was in side control for much of the final two rounds. He mauled Boestch on the ground with elbows and punches gaining a unanimous decision (29-28) victory.
Brilz attempted just one takedown in the opening round and looked sloppy on his feet. He was consistently beaten to the punch. His corner yelled at him in between rounds to cut out the boxing and get back to his bread and butter. From there, Brilz (17-1-1, 2-0 UFC) took down Boestch (8-3, 2-2 UFC) whenever he wanted.
