    • Mike Lullo out of suburban Chicago is the latest addition to UFC 123. He is replacing the injured Darren Elkins to face Edson Barboza, and is on an eight-fight win streak. Lullo trains at Midwest Training Center where he has worked with Clay Guida, and is pictured above winning by gogoplata over Jeremy Castro in June.

There is one more thing you should know about Lullo:

He is my cousin, and full disclosure, I am incredibly proud of Mikey for getting one step closer to his dream. Cagewriter will be on hand to cover Lullo, "Rampage" Jackson, Lyoto Machida and all of the other fighters at UFC 123 next week.

    • No fighter likes to get slugged in the face, but it's part of the job. From MMA to boxing, the best fighters in the world can absorb shots and return fire without hesitation. Just seven fights into his MMA career, Brock Lesnar isn't there yet. In fact, after watching him turn and run from Cain Velasquez, he's really at square one.

Urijah Faber knows the feeling. The former featherweight king also comes from an NCAA wrestling background and said that five years ago he was in the same place as Lesnar.

"We've all been there, where Lesnar is at," Faber said (6:00 mark). "Dude, getting hit is not the coolest thing to have done to you, but it's not that big of a deal. It takes a ton of sparring and some great defense and a knowledge of what it's like to get hit, to be able to get used to it."

Faber's career skyrocketed when he began working with Master Thong, a veteran of muay thai. The top level muay thai fighters have a calm demeanor and the uncanny ability to eat big shots so they can

    • Team Blackhouse must be sold on the teachings of Steve Seagal. Just like he did before Anderson Silva's last fight at UFC 117, the action movie star turned Louisiana deputy, is seen working with another one of the team's fighters.

Seagal, a seventh-degree black belt in Aikido, takes Lyoto Machida through a number of positions. Most of the drills cover counterstriking and defense.

At the 1:23 mark, Seagal talks about how Mauricio "Shogun" Rua overwhelmed Machida with flurries. He tells Machida to move to the side and use the opponent's offense to counter. Machida is already one of the best counterstrikers in MMA. If Seagal can add anything to his game, look out!

Silva told Tatame that people need to stop cracking on Seagal. He learned a lot from the movie star.

Machida lost his UFC light heavyweight title to Shogun back in May. He steps back into the Octagon this weekend against Quinton Jackson.

    • Last week featured a ton of free (for the price of cable) MMA, and while WEC 52 was reliably fantastic, UFC 122 was not the best collection of fights. Still, both cards featured fighters who were a step above.

No. 1 star -- Urijah Faber: It turns out the new Faber is the same as the old Faber. In his debut at bantamweight, the former featherweight champ submitted Takeya Mizugaki, a fighter who had only lost by a stoppage once before in his career.

No. 2 star -- Joseph Benavidez: Faber's teammate and training partner had his own big win. He had to try three times, but finally, Benavidez was able to submit one of MMA's best jiu-jitsu players, Wagnney Fabiano, with a guillotine.

No. 3 star -- Dennis Siver: Fighting in front of his home crowd at UFC 122 in Germany, Siver delivered. He dominated "The Ultimate Fighter" star Andre Winner, and ended the bout with a beautiful rear-naked choke. He earned a $60,000 Submission of the Night bonus for his work.

      Honorable mention -- Demetrious

    • UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell is still undecided on the future of his fighting life, but he has made a major commitment in his personal life. Liddell recently proposed to his girlfriend Heidi Northcott.

According to People Magazine, Liddell popped the question after the two went on a helicopter ride of the Grand Canyon. On Twitter, they responded to congratulations messages from baseball player Brad Penny and Liddell's "Dancing with the Stars" castmate, Karina Smirnoff.

The pair have not shied away from headlines. They starred in a viral advertisement that showed Liddell and Northcott working out in the nude. Before his bout with Rich Franklin at UFC 115, Liddell credited Northcott for helping him refocus on training and fighting. He went on to get knocked out in that bout.

    • Dana White speaks his mind even if it means lashing out at the good guys in the sport. White pulled no punches after watching Nate Marquardt struggle in another pivotal fight.

"He is a choker," White told MMAjunkie at the UFC postfight press conference. "He choked tonight. Listen you couldn't meet a nicer guy than Nate Marquardt. He's a great guy. Nice kid choked tonight."

Marquardt lost his one and only shot at the middleweight title back in 2007. He's admitted many times that he froze up against the champion Anderson Silva at UFC 73.

Back in February, a win over Chael Sonnen would've earned him a much-coveted rematch against the champ. Because of a flawed gameplan, he was dominated by Sonnen. It happened again last night against Yushin Okami. Marquardt never got in a groove. He was outpointed on the feet and couldn't maintain position when the match hit the ground.

What disappointed White even more was Marquardt's measured approach. The fight appeared to be even on the scorecards

    • Nate Marquardt is one of the best middleweights in the world but he may never get another shot UFC 185-pound title. Each time he's one step away from a championship match, Marquardt falls short. It happened again today at UFC 122 against Yushin Okami. The Japanese grappler is handful for anyone and now that's added decent striking to his arsenal, he was an unsolvable riddle for American. Okami pulled the upset with a unanimous decision win, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28, and earned himself a title shot some time in 2011.

Marquardt (30-10-2, 8-4 UFC) was in line for a title shot back at UFC 109. All he needed was a victory over Chael Sonnen. Sonnen dominated that fight with his wrestling and eventually faced Anderson Silva at UFC 117.

Okami didn't dominate the grappling to that degree but he did get the best of the work on the ground in the opening two rounds. In the third, Marquardt looked a little tired and couldn't figure out how to get inside to land punches. The taller Okami used his jab

    • Dennis Siver is built like a mini-Mike Tyson so it should surprise no one, that he likes to stand and bang. Andre Winner also likes a good scrap. So when the duo decided to square off in the middle of the cage and flail away, there was no way the match was going to decision. Siver ate some great punches from Winner. When he landed his own big counter left, Winner hit the floor. Siver jumped on top, unleashed a nasty set of punches and took the back of the stunned Brit. Siver pulled off a nifty choke submission at 3:37 of the first round.

Siver - a Russian, who moved to Mannheim, Germany when he was 17 - sent the 8,204 in Oberhausen into a frenzy. The spectacular stoppage from Siver (17-7, 6-4 UFC) got him the submission of the night bonus good for $60,000. He's also earned himself a step up in competition his next time. Don't be surprised if Siver is a regular on the televised portion of several cards in 2011. He's an action fighter, who can potentially produce highlight reel finishes

    • Amir Sadollah just entered his 30's but he's far from a finished product in MMA. The Virginian spent most of his 20's learning the discipline of muay thai and working as a full-time medical tech. He went for broke on Season 7 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and is now a full-time MMA fighter. You can see his game coming together. Sadollah outhustled a skilled youngster in Peter Sobotta. By the end of the fight, the German could barely lift his hands as Sadollah scored a unanimous decision victory, 30-27 on all three cards.

Sadollah (4-2, 4-2 UFC) pushed the pace from the opening bell. He let loose with well placed kick-punch combinations. As the fight moved into the second, Sadollah's work with leg kicks started to take its toll. Sobotta (8-4, 0-3 UFC) tried to match the output but never landed anything significant. He had very little left in the final round.

The champ from TUF 7 got his career back on track with the win. A loss may have put Sadollah's gig with the promotion in jeopardy.

    • Alessio Sakara was a fight day casualty today in Germany at UFC 122. An undisclosed illness (described as flu-like symptoms) forced the promotion to scrap the Sakara-Jorge Rivera fight, which was slated to be the co-main event.

Duane "Bang" Ludwig was the beneficiary. His fight against against Nick Osipczak was moved to the main card. They engaged in a back and forth battle. Osipczak did more damage in the first and Ludwig was overwhelming in the third. The issue arose with the second. It was razor thin. Ludwig (pictured) got the nod on 2-of-3 judges' cards and walked away with a split decision win on the first televised fight at UFC 122.

If anyone deserved a break it was Ludwig (20-11, 3-2 UFC). A 72-match veteran of the fight game, he'd experienced heartbreak after heartbreak with the UFC. He made a stupid mistake at UFC 108 and got armbarred by Jim Miller. Then at UFC on Versus 1 this March, he suffered fluke injury in the first round when he tried to brace his fall on a takedown,
