CHICAGO -- The UFC's stop in the Windy City had two great knockouts, a champion holding onto his belt, and the last fight of a one-time champ.

Despite a strong start by John Dodson, Demetrious Johnson held onto his championship belt with a unanimous decision. The judges saw it 48-47, 49-46, 48-47 for Johnson.

Unsurprisingly, Johnson and Dodson fought a fast-paced first two rounds. Johnson tried to slow things down in the first round with a takedown. While he did get Dodson to to the ground, the challenger popped back to his feet quickly.

Dodson dropped Johnson twice in the second round, and shook off Johnson's take down attempts with a great sprawl. Johnson seemed to have a hard time even getting close to Dodson to land a punch.

A Johnson knee in the fourth round caused a small fight stoppage. Dodson's hand was on the ground as Johnson threw a knee to Dodson's head, which is an illegal strike. The bout was stopped as doctors

(Tracy Lee)CHICAGO -- The UFC on Fox 6 preliminary card featured a first-round knockout, a first-round submission, and a decision that will be discussed for a long time.

T.J. Grant used elbows early in the bout to batter Matt Wiman's face, and then used them to finish the fight. From the standing position, Grant threw elbow after elbow to send Wiman to the canvas. He finished with a punch or two in a knockout so vicious that it left blood droplets on the camera. The bout was stopped at 4:51 in the first round.

Clay Guida took the decision in front of a raucous home crowd, but it was hardly clear cut. Hioki had much better striking in the first round, though Guida pulled out a takedown late. In the second, Guida had a big slam and controlled him for the majority of the round. Hioki tried for submissions, but wasn't close to submitting Guida. The third round followed the same script.

One judge saw the fight 29-28 for Hioki, but the other two saw it for Guida, 30-27 and 29-28. Guida grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and had a large backing at the United Center.

CHICAGO -- Clay Guida won by a split decision over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on Fox 6, but that result was nowhere near as important as the facial hair Guida sported to the cage on Saturday night. He had a full beard at press events all week, but told Cagewriter to expect something special for fight night. Special doesn't even come close to describe this amazing sculpture of lip fur. That mustache has won bar fights, saved kittens from trees and loves a good whiskey. Ron Swanson is jealous of that mustache.

CHICAGO -- The UFC on Fox 6 weigh-ins featured a large, raucous, possibly liquored up crowd of Chicago fight fans, plenty of cool socks, and every fighter making weight. The only fighter who came close to not making weight was Clay Guida. He walked to the scale wearing a custom shirt with the Chicago flag on it and a Chicago flag wristband. He jumped on the scale and was 147, too heavy for featherweight in his first fight at that weight class. He then took off his Chicago Bulls socks and jewelry, and made weight. The only other bit of drama was some jawing between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Glover Teixiera.

Flying John Dodson (Getty)CHICAGO -- Donald Cerrone and John Dodson are at it again. After needling each other throughout the UFC on Fox 6 open workouts, the flyweight and the lightweight start teasing each other during Thursday's press conference. If you didn't see the smile in their eyes, you would think these two are opponents, not teammates.

But they are teammates, working together at Jackson's MMA in New Mexico as they prepared for their fights this weekend along with Shawn Jordan and Clay Guida. The camaraderie that has grown from their time in the gym showed as Cerrone and Dodson go back and forth.

"There's no tension or anything because we play around with John, and I will keep picking on him," Cerrone said.

"I already told you that. Me and Demetrious [Johnson, Dodson's opponent on Saturday] will beat your [expletive]," Dodson replies to Cerrone, before turning back to the gaggle of reporters. "With all of us playing around, it's just my family. It's my big brother trying to pick on me."

For Guida, that playfulness has turned into a second family he finds at the gym in Albuqurque, New Mexico.

"It's my family here, it's my family in Albuquerque, and it's a homecoming for Greg Jackson, too. He's from the west suburbs. To see Coach come back and get to work with his students, to see John Dodson be the main event in the flyweight title bout, that's just huge."

Jackson, the coach behind the fighters, still has most of his family in Chicago. He claims Chicago sports teams -- because his mother would never forgive him if he didn't -- and he likes bringing his fighters back here.

(USA Today Sports)CHICAGO -- UFC on Fox 6 is packed with homegrown talent. Clay Guida, Mike Russow and Ricardo Lamas all grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Anthony Pettis is from nearby Milwaukee. Eric Koch was raised in Iowa, then moved to Milwaukee and trains with Pettis. The card has a noticeably Midwestern feel, and the fighters are happy about fighting so close to their own backyard.

For Guida, there is an extra thrill in fighting Hatsu Hioki at the United Center. Growing up in Johnsburg, Ill., he watched the Bulls dominate the 90s from that arena, and later, saw the Blackhawks win their first Stanley Cup in 53 years. Guida was at the Blackhawks' home opener on Tuesday night, and it's quite moving for him to get to compete in the same place.

"I've been going to sleep with an even bigger smile on my face knowing that I get to fight in the friendly confines, the Madhouse on Madison, you're going to see the true definition of the madhouse. I get chills every time I think about it," Guida said.

"To be able to perform in that stage, the house that Jordan built, and [Scottie] Pippen, and John Paxson and Bill Cartwright, and all these guys, the six-time champion Chicago Bulls, the former Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, it's an honor. To see my dad and my aunts and uncles and that this is where they watched those teams, I'm kind of at a loss for words for it."

Lamas wrestled and coached at Elmhurst College, a division III school in Chicago's west suburbs. The wrestling team was so excited about Lamas' fight in Chicago that they made a change to their schedule.

(Getty)CHICAGO -- Clay Guida will take on Hatsu Hioki on Saturday's UFC on Fox 6 card. It will mark Guida's first fight at featherweight, but before the bout and weigh-ins, he has another match on his mind.

Montini Catholic's wrestling team will face the Oak Park River Forest Huskies, and Guida will be matside to coach. He wrestled in high school and was part of a junior college national championship team at Harper College in suburban Chicago.

"I got a big wrestling meet tonight with the team I help coach, Montini Catholic at Oak Park-River Forest. We're no. 1, going for our sixth-straight state title. I believe they're no. 1 ranked in 3A, no. 2 in the state. Two top-10 teams in the nation."

Guida's longtime wrestling coach, Izzy Martinez, coaches at Montini, and he's brought fighters like Guida in to help his team. Guida's fight taking place in his hometown of Chicago days after Montini's biggest dual meet is lucky scheduling because it allows Guida to be at the meet. Working with the high
