Just when you thought Yasiel Puig's week couldn't get any worse, his quick post All-Star game trip to Miami was interrupted by a thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon.
Seriously, no one plans a getaway to Florida and pictures themselves dealing with a thunderstorm. A passing rain? Sure, that's to be expected. But not a plan-altering thunderstorm.
Unfortunately for Puig, they do pop up from time to time, and his planned pool party was canceled as a result. Fortunately for the rest of us, he was videotaping during the storm, and caught his own terrified reaction to a loud thunderclap near his location.
Yeah, we'd say his All-Star week bottomed out in epic fashion. He was the only participant to go without a homer in Monday's Home Run Derby. He didn't even make contact in Tuesday's All-Star game, striking out three times in three plate appearances. Then he travels all night to Miami and can't even enjoy a pool party on Wednesday.
Who knows what Thursday will bring, but at least he'll be one day closer to Friday, where the Dodgers will resume playing games that count against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Then again, he doesn't have many great memories there either. That's where his rookie season ended in the NLCS.
On the plus side, he's been able to find the silver lining in the dark clouds hanging over this week. Despite his All-Star struggles, he says the experience was a good one for him personally. He was also able to have fun at his own expense, posting the video to Instragram himself when most of us would have hit delete. And at least for now, he still has this awesome haircut.
Not all is bad in Yasiel Puig's world, but this is nowhere near the week we envisioned or hoped for from the first time All-Star. Here's hoping the rest of his week and next year's All-Star game net better results.
