"Now this is a story all about how / My life got flipped, turned upside down"
You know what comes next right? Having the lyrics to the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song cemented in your brain is a pillar of knowing '90s pop culture. Judging from what she did on camera Thursday, New York Yankees clubhouse reporter Meredith Marakovits is down with the '90s. She rapped, on command from a YES Network colleague, a verse of the "Fresh Prince" theme.
You see, she's from the Philly area and Will Smith — this one, not that one — had earned baseball's first win of Fourth of July. And it was "Independence Day." Proper timing for a Fresh Prince tribute, right?
Marakovits flubbed one part — leaving out a line and half about "shooting b-ball outside of the school." For being put on the spot, though, Marakovits should be commended for her efforts. Maybe she can buddy up with Seattle Mariners prospect Taijuan Walker who says all he does is watch "Fresh Prince" episodes.
Now let's all enjoy the freshness that is the "Fresh Prince" theme song:
