Call it the hex of the Hanging Sox, but more likely it's the curse of the Classic.

Either way, Boston pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka is going to spend at least 15 early season days on the disabled list after being placed there earlier today.

"Tired shoulder" is being given as the reason for Dice-K's DL trip and it's said he'll visit a team doctor on Friday to see exactly what's wrong with it. Fenway folks, cross your fingers.

Frankly, the fact that Matsuzaka is having pitching troubles so early on doesn't come as a surprise. He pitched valiantly during the World Baseball Classic, being named tourney MVP as Japan successfully defended its title.

But it's clear that the pressure placed upon the Japanese players by the country's media and fans takes a toll on the players. Ichiro has already talked about feeling exhausted after the defense and now Dice-K has provided proof by turning in two horrid starts to begin the year. During Tuesday night's loss to Oakland, he only threw 22 strikes in 43 pitches and pitched in only one inning, giving up five runs, five hits and two walks. Ug? Meet Ly.

This news is sure to spark a new round of debate over whether teams should allow players to participate in the WBC. After seeing Dice-K's debut, it's not hard to see why they shouldn't. After slinking out to a 2-6 start to the season, did Boston really need this drama?
