Watch Dodger Stadium transform into a hockey venue in time lapse video

Two weeks ago we watched the amazing transformation of Fenway Park as it went from baseball stadium to hockey venue and winter wonderland in a matter days. Now we move to Los Angeles, where the weather is quite a bit warmer, but the goal is still the same: transform Dodger Stadium into a hockey venue.

Of course, the purpose for the transformation is to prepare for the next game in the NHL's Stadium Series. On Jan. 25, the Los Angeles Kings will play host to the Anaheim Duck in a battle for hockey supremacy in southern California. However, as our friends over at Puck Daddy pointed out recently, the entirely different climate has necessitated a few different wrinkles in the set up than we’re used to with other outside hockey events.

Again, the most notable comparison would be Fenway Park, since they took a single Winter Classic in 2010 and expanded it into a week long Frozen Fenway event. Los Angeles is attempting to do something similar, but instead of a monster sled ramp in the outfield, Dodger Stadium features a beach volleyball court and a roller hockey rink.

It doesn’t get any more California than that.

It makes for a fascinating overhead visual — with a full size hockey rink taking up most of the infield and sand overflowing the outfield — and an even better time lapse video. Especially when you throw in the L.A. smog.
