Mets Kidcaster

It would appear Gary Cohen (right) has some competition as the television voice of the New York Mets. Maybe not right now, but he should probably start looking over his shoulder in about 12-15 years.

That's because Jacob Resnick — an 11-year-old who won SNY's Kidcaster Contest — absolutely stole the broadcast from Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez with his exhuberant call of Jose Reyes' first-pitch home run in the bottom of the third inning.

How cool is that?

The moment was only made cooler by Resnick's revelation that Reyes is his favorite current Mets player. In case you're wondering, Resnick mentioned that Tom Seaver is his favorite Met of all time.

In addition to the emphatic home run call, Resnick impressed the Mets trio with his preparation for the broadcast — which included several sticky notes — and overall baseball knowledge. When Cohen mentioned that not many announcers get to call a home run on their first pitch, Resnick quickly pointed out that former Met Kaz Matsui homered on the first pitch in his MLB career. Even I barely remembered that.

He also provided an interesting note on the Mets' struggles with rookie pitchers this season. Unfortunately for Resnick, that problem continued as the Mets eventually dropped the ballgame to the Florida Marlins and rookie Brad Hand, 4-3.

Luckily for Resnick, there's always a next time.
