The Chicago White Sox can say this much about Kansas City Royals catcher Matt Treanor: He is married to a volleyball player.

That piece of trivia is all anybody ever seems to know about Treanor, a backup in the majors since 2004 who also happens to be married to volleyball superstar Misty May-Treanor (on the right).

An attractive and athletic Olympic champion, she certainly is attention-worthy. But the White Sox don't play volleyball, do they now? Maybe they should. But they don't.

After manager Ozzie Guillen intentionally walked rookie Eric Hosmer to load the bases in the sixth inning Tuesday night, Treanor got the key hit — a two-run single — in the Royals' 4-2 victory. After the game, the media asked Guillen about Treanor, and Brett Ballantini of CSN Chicago reported the response on Twitter:

Q: Whaddya know about Treanor, Ozzie?

A: He's married to that volleyball player...

Great scouting report, Oz. He might want to look a little closer at the groom's side of the Treanor-May marriage the next time Treanor is in the opposing lineup, because he's been killing them. {YSP:MORE}

Treanor has a solid history against the White Sox, producing his best batting split against them. Just two weeks ago, he burned them at Chicago, hitting a two-run single to give the Royals their final margin in a K.C. victory.

That said, Treanor is a .227/.317/.311 hitter in more than 1,300 career plate appearances — for an adjusted OPS that is 31 points below the major league average. He's a backup for a reason. Hosmer, though he hasn't been tearing it up, has been above average through 283 career appearances and figures to get better. If Matt Treanor is going to beat you, tip your cap (or curse your pitcher).

But at least know to whom you're tipping your cap.

Treanor had one of his top games against the White Sox in April 2010, hitting a two-run homer and driving in another run with a double to beat Mark Buehrle.

What could Buehrle say about Treanor?

"He's married to some volleyball player."

Chicago and K.C. get back to baseball Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium. Are the Sox wondering who left-hander Bruce Chen is married to?
