When the wild story of Yasiel Puig's journey from Cuba to an MLB contract published a few weeks ago, we said it was like something out of a Hollywood thriller. Hollywood apparently agrees.

The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news that producer/director Brett Ratner has acquired the rights to Puig's immigration story, as told as by Jesse Katz of Los Angeles Magazine, and has plans to make a Puig biopic. Ratner is best known for the "Rush Hour" movies, "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Horrible Bosses."

Katz's tale — published just this month — gave us new insight on Puig's journey to America and how he eventually signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including how he was essentially held hostage in Mexico by a group of smugglers until a team of "fixers" extracted him. We can see the CGI now.

Buying the film rights to something, and that something actually becoming a full-fledged Hollywood film are two very different things.Much like in a baseball season, there are a lot of ways things can go wrong.

But Puig's story, his star power and his polarizing nature sure seem like they'd be good for the big screen. Imagine the bat flips!

Per The Hollywood Reporter:

Ratner will produce the big-screen take with Beau Flynn via his FlynnPictureCo. banner ... The Puig project reunites Ratner and Flynn after their partnership on Hercules, the action tentpole starring Dwayne Johnson opening July 25. Ratner directed the movie and produced it with Flynn. Ratner is also a producer on Horrible Bosses 2, which just wrapped production.

The next obvious question: Who plays Puig? This is about as good of an answer as any out there.

Beyond Milli Vanilli, there are a lot of casting jokes to be made — feel free to spill your suggestions in the comments.

Imagine if this does become a feature film. You think people irrationally hate Puig now? Just wait.
