Sandy Koufax was bloody but conscious as he was carted off the field at Los Angeles Dodgers training camp Friday. The Hall of Fame pitcher, 78, was smacked in the forehead by a foul ball but stayed on his feet. Of course, he did. He's Sandy Koufax. He's like the Yoda of the Dodgers.
Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times snapped this pic of Koufax leaving the field.
Koufax, like many baseball icons, shows up at spring training this time of year to act as ambassador and lend wisdom to the younger players. Earlier Friday, for instance, Koufax was watching Clayton Kershaw throw.
Hernandez says Koufax was at least smiling after he was hit, so that's a positive. Know who probably wasn't smiling? Andre Ethier. He's the Dodger who hit the ball that struck Koufax. How dare you, Andre!
It's a good thing Matt Kemp's health is still in question and the team's outfield isn't as crowded as it could be. Otherwise some Dodgers fans might be trying to run Ethier out of town for hurting their esteemed Sandy Koufax.
