Ryan Braun gets standing ovation from Brewers fans in return from PED suspension

It didn't sound like Milwaukee Brewers fans were too torn about whether to support Ryan Braun upon his return from a 65-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs.

When Braun came to bat for the first time on opening day, the fans at Miller Park cheered almost like he was an adopted shih tzu imported from Arizona. If you just watched the clip above, you almost wouldn't believe the player in question was one of the most controversial of 2013 and a key figure in the Biogenesis scandal.

This either says something about the power of forgiveness, the clean-slate nature of opening day or how much baseball fans simply value good players over PED rules. Braun did try to make amends with fans in Milwaukee — for instance, he called season ticket holders and apologized — so maybe that helped win people over again.

Whatever their rationale, the fans in Milwaukee have come a long way since this type of stuff last season:

After the game, Braun told reporters, "It was special. It was an emotional moment for me." He finished the game 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in the Brewers' 2-0 victory.

Now let's wait and see what kind of ovations he gets on the road.
