Shrewd move, Texas Rangers. Selecting Russell Wilson — the Seattle Seahawks quarterback — in December's Rule 5 draft has already given the team a lot of positive PR, but it's also proving to be a money maker.

Fans turned out in droves Monday to see Wilson work out with the Rangers. It was a fun experience for Wilson, a former minor-league baseball player who eventually turned his attention to football and won a Super Bowl last season. It was a merchandise opportunity for the Rangers.

They started selling jerseys and shirseys (those T-shirt jerseys) with Wilson's name on the back over the weekend, and as Russell Wilson fever took over the Rangers' spring complex Monday in Surprise, Ariz., the cash register at the team store was busy. Bob Nightengale of USA Today has the particulars:

The souvenir shop at Surprise Stadium sold out of the $30 Wilson T-shirts in 10 minutes, and by the end of the game only a few $125 Wilson jerseys remained.

This should surprise no one. Neither should this: Rangers gear with Wilson's name across the back is also a hot seller online. You can buy some here at the Yahoo Sports Shop

And now, we wait until a baseball team figures out a way to sell a Johnny Manziel shirsey.
