It would be A-Rod's second turn as an author. He wrote "Out of the Ballpark," a kid's book, which was released in 2007. It's anybody's guess which will have more substance. But this literary adventure would be much less about selling A-Rod's celebrity to kids, and way more about sending A-Rod further down the path to becoming the next Jose Canseco.
A-Rod's camp even wants to turn his feud with MLB and Commissioner Bud Selig — and certainly that looming 211-game suspension that's awaiting an appeal ruling — into a documentary. Here are the specifics from Page Six:
A source tells us: “A number of publishers are vying for the book, with offers coming in over $5 million. Alex has met with several publishers over the past few weeks and has meetings with others right after the new year.
“This book is going to go into the real low-down dirt of MLB tactics and collusion with the Yankees to get him out of the game. Alex has also had meetings with Billy Corben on a ‘30 for 30’-type documentary about his story.”
Corben’s studio, Rakontur, set up with partner Alfred Spellman, produced “The U,” a documentary about the championship history of the University of Miami football program for ESPN’s “30 for 30” series. It became the highest-rated documentary in the network’s 30-year history when it debuted in December 2009. Alex has long-standing ties with the university.
Anybody else disappointed that Derek Jeter's new publishing company isn't in the mix for the A-Rod book rights? Where's that Yankee loyalty? We'll be even more disappointed if the book doesn't include a "Where's A-Rod" map with a hidden centaur.
Keep in mind: This is fodder from the gossip pages, so it might all be hogwash. It could just be another chess move by A-Rod's camp to get under the skin of Selig and MLB, as they continue to push each other's buttons even in December.
Don't let that stop us from having some fun, though. Let's hear your potential titles for the tell-all A-Rod book. Leave 'em in the comments.
