A-Rod homers in Double-A, says he’s six days away from returning to Yankees

While a bunch of his fellow baseball stars were in New York City gawking at home runs, embattled Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was in Double-A on Monday, playing for the Trenton Thunder.

Amid speculation that a huge suspension — or even a lifetime ban — could be coming his way soon, A-Rod managed to have the best game yet of his rehabilitation tour. He went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an infield single. He also played seven innings at third base.

That's a strong showing for A-Rod, considering he had only three hits in 21 at-bats through eight Single-A games. This was his first game in Double-A.

Afterward, A-Rod told Andy McCullough of The Star-Ledger that Monday's game was "by far the best I’ve felt and played" and that he estimated himself six days away from returning to the Yankees.

Though, let's remember, that's not coming from the Yankees — so here's hoping Brian Cashman doesn't get mad at A-Rod for speaking out of turn. Again.

Rodriguez angered the Yanks once in the past week by not showing for a rehab game on Friday, which was the same day he met with Major League Baseball regarding the Biogenesis case. It's been speculated that A-Rod was so shaken after hearing MLB's case against him that he blew off the game to meet with his legal team.

A few days later, A-Rod had to feel good about getting on the field and hitting that home run. But does anybody else wonder if it's the last one we might ever see him hit?

Baseball season's in full swing. Don't miss a thing.
