A-Rod closer to first base with Kate Hudson than he is at work

If reports out of Miami are true, Alex Rodriguez(notes) carrying the burden of a slumping bat obviously cannot affect his ability to party with the beautiful people.

The Palm Beach Post reports A-Rod, whom Yankees manager Joe Girardi recently benched because of "fatigue," was spotted with his apparent main squeeze, actress Kate Hudson, on South Beach in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

The pair of lovebirds reportedly left a South Beach party "15 minutes apart" yet somehow found themselves in "the back seat of A-Rod's chauffeured Maybach at 2:30 a.m."

Alex Emmanuel Rodriguez, you get over here right now!

Look, blowing off steam in the old hometown with a Hollywood hottie sounds like many a guy's idea of relaxation, but given A-Rod's recent track record of decision-making, perhaps cozying up with a scouting report in one's hotel room might be a better way to pass the time.

Not much of a reader? Maybe A-Rod could pop in a DVD and do some extra video work (on hitting — and not hitting on babes). Hey, how about a little Tom Emanski fix?

It's one thing to look the other way when your superstar slugger wants to massage his inner rock star, but when he's fallen to .212/.373/.462 supposedly because of "fatigue," is letting him be a 24-hour-party person really the best corrective tactic?

Peter Abraham's LoHud Blog reports that A-Rod, fresh and ready to go, is back in the lineup today.

Baby, don't hurt me... don't hurt me... no more.
