The Detroit Tigers still had a chance and did what they could, rallying for a 5-4 win against the Cleveland Indians. But a little while later in Anaheim, Mike Napoli stuck it to his former team yet again with not one, but two home runs. His two-run shot in the ninth inning gave the Texas Rangers the final lead, as they beat the Los Angeles Angels, 3-1.
With that, the Rangers finished with the second-best record in the AL and will host the Tampa Bay Rays in a rematch of last year's ALDS. The Tigers are off to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees Friday evening. Can we interest anyone in a Game 1 featuring CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander facing off?
Over in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers beat out the Arizona Diamondbacks for home-field advantage on the strength of a 7-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The two teams aren't done with each other yet, though. With the Cardinals winning the wild card, Milwaukee and Arizona will match up in the NLDS beginning Saturday at Miller Park. Getting into the playoffs earns the Cardinals a first-round series against the Phillies.
So is everyone clear on who's playing who and where each team is playing?
OK, then. Let's get this postseason under way.
