President Obama booed in Boston after trying to make a Kevin Youkilis joke

President Barack Obama still refuses to waffle when it comes to baseball loyalties.

The commander in chief has consistently repped his hometown Chicago White Sox throughout his first term, wearing a White Sox jacket at the All-Star game in St. Louis, rooting for the Pale Hose over Strasburg and Co. while in the District, and  being skeptical about the gift of a Brewers jersey in Wisconsin.

President Obama, however, had yet to venture into a lion's den as tough as the one he wandered into on Monday night. Testing the extreme limits of his supporters in New England, the president thanked Boston-area fundraisers for their gift of Kevin Youkilis. The Red Sox mainstay became the third baseman for the Chicago White Sox after a trade for outfielder Brent Lillibridge and pitcher Zach Stewart on Sunday afternoon.

The crowd's response to Obama's joke was predictable.

And no, they weren't saying Youk.

From the Boston Globe:

As boos swelled up from the floor and down down from the double balconies at Symphony Hall, Obama chuckled.

"I'm just saying, he had to change the color of his socks," the president said with a building grin.

"I didn't anticipate boos out of here," he added as some of the boos turned to the low rumble of "Y-o-o-u-k."

The president finally conceded, "Obviously, you got to know your crowd."

One woman then absolved him of guilt, yelling out from above, "We still love you."

The harsh reception ruined any chance we had at hearing Obama's thoughts on the White Sox's chances of winning the AL Central. But considering he appeared a lot more gleeful about the trade than this young and heartbroken Brent Lillibridge fan, there's a good chance he's hopeful the White Sox will win their first division title since his first election year.
