Pirate booty! Andrew McCutchen spanks Neil Walker's bottom after walk-off homer

Neil Walker of the Pittsburgh Pirates broke a scoreless tie with a walk-off home run against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday. And then this happened:

Pirate booty! It was Walker's first career game-ending homer, and it was opening day at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, and McCutchen is the Bucs leader, so a powerful spanking was in order, apparently.

By the time the Bucs got to the clubhouse they were acting a little more chill. There wasn't music blaring. No hooting and hollering. It was more business-like. McCutchen and Russell Martin agreed on a theme: "Act like you've been there before, because you have." The Pirates won 94 games and made the playoffs a season ago. So, going forward, be cool about winning.

After the spanking, though.

Reporter Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review added a couple of neat details about Walker's homer:

The home run was Walker's first walk-off hit since he was in Triple-A. It also was the second walk-off homer in a 1-0 Opening Day victory in major league history. The Pirates' Bob Bailey hit the other one April 12, 1965, off the Giants' Juan Marichal.

“This one feels pretty special. This was a special day for this team and this organization. We've come a long way,” Walker said. “The last 20 years have been a tough thing. To get to where we are now it is pretty amazing. … The excitement in the ballpark, the pregame ceremonies, Frankie (Liriano) going out there and pitching a great game, it kind of felt like a rollover from last year.”
