What was so funny? I don't know. I don't speak Japanese.
But I assume his good vibes came from the fact that he feels no pain in his back, a previous sore spot that was a bone (or bones) of contention last season. Dice-K even threw off flat ground on Monday and seems ready to proceed with his reputation repairs in 2010.
"Matsuzaka said he has no pain in his back and plans to play catch every day to prepare himself for returning to the mound. He made 25 throws from 60 feet today and 25 more from 90. I watched all of them and he was basically using his regular delivery, but not finishing the pitch off like he would where he off the mound.
"'I had some hesitation going into it but I was able to throw without any discomfort, so I'm relieved,' Matsuzaka said.
Relieved to the point of hilarity, it would appear.
