OAKLAND — Miguel Cabrera was going to make a difference in the Detroit Tigers ALDS series with the Oakland Athletics. It was only a matter of time. And, really, his timing was pretty good.

Cabrera hit a Sonny Gray 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall at O.Co Coliseum, breaking a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning of Thursday night's Game 5. He brought home Torii Hunter, who had singled right before his at-bat for the Tigers' first hit of the night.

For Miggy, the favorite for American League MVP, it was his first homer since Sept. 17, and only his second since Aug. 26. It was his third extra-base in September and October.

Two runs might be the difference in this decisive game between the A's and Tigers. Cabrera's teammate Justin Verlander has been stellar in the early party of Thursday's game. He didn't allow a hit through four innings and struck out five Oakland batters. The Tigers lead 2-0 at the time of this posting.
