Miguel Cabrera gets his 2,000th hit, and it's a monster home run

Miguel Cabrera needed four hits coming into Friday's game to reach 2,000 for his career. The calendar said April 4, so it seemed like the perfect day to collect four hits.

No problem for baseball's almost $300-million man, as he went 4-for-5 in the Detroit Tigers' 10-4 crushing of the Baltimore Orioles. Hit No. 2,000 came in grand form, as Cabrera blasted a homer to left field in the eighth inning for two of his three RBIs.

Cabrera is 30, he'll be 31 later this month, and getting to 2,000 hits when he did makes him the seventh youngest player to reach the plateau. He's the ninth player to hit 2,000 before age 31, a list that includes Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Mel Ott, Hank Aaron, Joe Medwick, Jimmie Foxx, Robin Young and Alex Rodriguez.
