A perception exists that only bad stuff happens to the New York Mets. Well, it's not true, as outfielder Juan Lagares is here to show you. He made an impressive catch running into the fence at Target Field on Monday afternoon, giving Josh Willingham and the Minnesota Twins a bitter taste of Mets baseball.

Note the trace of an ice cream cone in Lagares' glove after hitting the fence. Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen noted:

"He keeps outdoing himself."

Lagares also had a great series at Petco Park during the Mets' recent visit there, making a nice (forward) dive on a dying liner by San Diego's Jedd Gyorko, along with a spot-on throw home, cutting down Tyson Ross trying to score. One-hop perfection.

And it's not just a small sample size of defensive gems, either, as Mark Simon of ESPN notes:

At the plate, Lagares has a woeful strikeout-to-walk ratio, and he's batting .254/.284/.395 for an OPS+ of 90. But never mind that, not while he's taking away runs on defense.
