If he wanted, Leonys Martin could take his leaping and juggling talents to Cirque du Soleil after he's done playing the outfield for the Texas Rangers. Martin's personal game of hot potato stole a hit from unlucky slugger Brian McCann of the New York Yankees on Tuesday night, and helped to keep the game locked in a scoreless tie that extended into extra innings.
Martin leaped at the fence and double clutched with his glove — appearing to lose possession — but hung on to the ball in the end to retire McCann on his drive to right field leading off the bottom of the second inning against right-hander Nick Martinez.
McCann came in batting .242 with 10 homers after being signed via free agency to provide big power. Martin's play took two or three bases off McCann's slugging percentage. Neither team could push across a run through the first 12 innings, so Martin's play also shaped the game's outcome.
