Well, if you weren't already sure that Josh Donaldson belonged on the American League's roster for the All-Star Game, then the opinion of media legend/noted baseball fan Larry King must sway you. King recently weighed in, via the social microblogging site Twitter, that it was "a joke" Donaldson wasn't going to Citi Field next week with the other best players in the majors. And Donaldson, who goes by @bringerofrain20 on Twitter — presumably because he likes "Spartacus" and not because he hits popups that reach the clouds — ain't too proud to retweet a little love from Larry.
Oakland, California, hello!
King also demanded that his followers, who are legion, to vote for Dodgers slugger Yasiel Puig on the NL side for its final roster spot. This All-Star stuff is serious business to King, who also wonders why Eliot Spitzer is seeking office again, what Val Kilmer is up to lately and why can't we have newspapers?
Larry's latest screed regards Donaldson, one of the most improved players in the league at age 27.
As Major League Baseball fans are left to decide in The Final Vote who is the most-deserving middle reliever, Donaldson is preparing to sit on the sidelines. No matter that his numbers — .319/.386/.534 with 15 home runs, 23 doubles and strong defense at third base — are better than most, Donaldson doesn't even get a whiff. Instead, fans get to vote for Joaquin Benoit, Steve Delabar, David Robertson, Tanner Scheppers and Koji Uehara. Oh, boy. Bring me the setup men (except for Benoit and, kind of, Uehara). Benoit isn't even the best Tigers reliever — it's Drew Smyly. But since there's a dispute because of manager Jim Leyland trolling us all, why don't we have a Final Vote for who the best Tigers reliever is and just send Donaldson to the All-Star Game?
It's what Larry King would want. Does want. (He's still kickin'! "Newspapers may be in trouble," Larry? "May be"?)
