Game-ending home runs are exciting, and not just for fans. Major league ballplayers also get into them, too, sometimes with unpredictable behavior. After teammate Reid Brignac lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 victory against the San Diego Padres with a walk-off home run at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night, Jonathan Papelbon celebrated by fiercely groping the chest of John Mayberry during the celebration at home plate. Under other circumstances, Mayberry might be perturbed by such an invasion of personal space, but he seems OK in the photo.
As Phillies blog leader Zoo With Roy would tell you, this is not the first time Papelbon has tweaked a teammate's nipples during a walk-off party at the plate. This is what happened after Ryan Howard won a game in late May with home-run heroics:
Those are the nipples of catcher Carlos "Chooch" Ruiz that Papelbon is tweaking as Howard approaches the scrum May 29. The maneuver is called a "Papelbra," ZWR says, but the cute reference to undergarments obscures another point: Papelbon is a serial nipple tweaker. Miley Cyrus and her twerking of Robin Thicke was the story of 2013, and now in 2014 it's tweaking, thanks to Papelbon.
Hey, it's a long season. Eight months, 8 1/2, out of the year, these guys are playing baseball. Sweating, bleeding, tearing. It's a long time for a group of men to be cooped up together in a clubhouse. Traveling in airplanes, buses and cabs. Tight quarters. Long amounts of time spent away from family. Certain urges strike. inhibitions break down. Naked emotions take over. Who are we to judge?
