Joe Maddon of the Tampa Bay Rays might or might not be the best manager in Major League Baseball. But there's 100 percent chance he's the coolest dude. To wit:
Everybody wearing Rays gear tonight at Legends on 2nd Street in Long Beach gets a free beer. It's our win or weep party.

After the Rays beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 on Tuesday to break a five-game losing streak, the traveling team staged a party at Legends bar in Long Beach, Cal., near Maddon's offseason home. They were going to party win or lose, Maddon said, even though winning is better. Considering the Rays scored seven runs total during their losing streak, they probably partied pretty hard.

The idea sprung from Maddon's formative years in Hazelton, Pa., Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports:
"Hazleton vs. West Hazleton, back in the day, Thanksgiving Day football — after the game, there was the Win or Weep Dance,'' he said. "Three years, Hazleton Win Dance.''
There was no crying in baseball Tuesday night, at least among the Rays and those fans partying down at Legends. Maddon might not be the first manager ever to buy fans beer, but he's probably the first ever to invite them to the bar on Twitter.
I want Joe Maddon to manage my life. I want David Cone to call it, and Joe Maddon to manage it.
