Joba Chamberlain seems re-energized since joining the Detroit Tigers. He's slimmed down, grown some facial hair and is getting a fresh start outside of the tough New York City spotlight.

Chamberlain made his first appearance of the spring on Thursday, and many people noticed a cool Joba fact for the first time: He turned his Tommy John surgery scar into a smiley face tattoo. He's actually had it for a while — since last summer, at the very least.

But his new hometown paper, The Detroit Free Press, noticed the tattoo and shared this:

Chamberlain had elbow surgery in 2011. It's a fairly common occurrence for pitchers, but we can't recall anyone embracing their surgery scar as much as Chamberlain.
