Derek Jeter completes five innings in 2014 spring debut

Derek Jeter said he felt like he hadn't played in two years. It hasn't been that long — he played in 17 games in 2013 — but Jeter got the first game of his final season out of the way Thursday, going 0 for 2 and hitting into a double play for the New York Yankees in Grapefruit League action. Jeter's only chance in the field came on a tag play at second base when Josh Harrison of the Pirates was caught stealing.

(I don't know about that call. Throw your replay flag, Clint Hurdle!)

Jeter says he's healthy after enduring multiple injuries in '13 stemming from the broken ankle he suffered during the 2012 playoffs. Jeter said he was just trying to get comfortable in his first time seeing live pitching this spring.

"I'll try to enjoy everything, time with my teammates, because every time I do something now, it's going to be for the last time," Jeter told Meredith Marokovits of YES. "But I still have a job to do."

One down, a hundred-and-something more to go, knock on wood.
