Finally, Derek Jeter will take the field for the Yankees — the Triple-A version at least.

Jeter, it was announced Friday, has been cleared by the team to begin a rehabilitation assignment. He'll join the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Saturday and will play a minimum of five innings, according to the Yanks. It's the long-awaited return of Jeter, 39, who has missed the entire season thus far with setbacks from a broken ankle suffered in last year's playoffs.

On Thursday, Jeter told the AP in Florida, where he's been working out at the Yankees minor-league facility:

''I'm anxious to be playing in games,'' Jeter said. ''When they tell me to play, I'll play.''

On Wednesday, Jeter ran the bases after putting the ball in play during simulated at-bats for the first time since a second break was found in his left ankle. He is expected to rejoin the Yankees after the All-Star break.

''Everything felt good,'' Jeter said.

In other Yankee rehab news: A-Rod has been elevated to the Tampa Yankees, the Single-A advanced affiliate starting Friday. He played two games with a lower Single-A team, the Charleston RiverDogs, and didn't get a hit in four at-bats.

Baseball season's in full swing. Don't miss a thing.
