David Price can’t wait for football season — here he is throwing a bullpen session in a full Vanderbilt uniform

The Tampa Bay Rays are known to dress up in funky outfits during their themed road trips — like when they went camouflage or dressed up as nerds.

But ace pitcher David Price's Wednesday get-up is strange even by those standards. He threw a bullpen session in full football uniform — helmets, pads and everything. The uniform, of course, is from his alma mater Vanderbilt University.

Vandy plays its opening game of the college football season on Thursday, on ESPN no less, so this was Price's way of giving a shout out to his Commodore brethren. Price tweeted this earlier:

Here are a few more pics of Price looking like a walk-on punter:

Of course, with the mounting concerns about pitchers getting hit in the head by line drives — take, for instance Price's teammate Alex Cobb — wearing pads and a football helmet might not be all that strange for pitchers in the future.

Baseball season's in full swing. Don't miss a thing.
