Each morning this week, I've clicked on the Daily News' website to see the new dirt they're reporting about Roger Clemens and to examine all of the skeletons their sources are flinging out of the Rocket's closet at a rate we've haven't seen since Bill Clinton was a fresh-faced presidential upstart from Arkansas.
It really makes me wonder if Clemens or his wife are sitting at home, hitting refresh on their browser every night. If so, what the heck does that scene look like? These reports may or may not be true, but I'm sure Roger is past the point of being able to dismiss it with a simple, "Well, you know the papers, honey. They just love a good story. Doesn't mean it's true."
Anyway, one can only imagine what's being said in the Clemens' household this morning, after the Daily News' latest report that the pitcher had a relationship with Paulette Dean Daly, ex-wife of golfer John Daly, that "was romantic and involved financial support."
From the Daily News:
Asked if she had been romantically involved with Clemens, Daly replied: "You know what, I'm really uncomfortable talking about this. I'm just going to have to say, 'No comment.'
"I know Roger. I consider him a good friend. That's all I'm comfortable saying."
Clemens' relationship with Daly is said to have come after the end of her marriage to the hard-driving golfer.
And here we thought the Mindy McCready report was as crazy as it was going to get. If this latest revelation hasn't convinced the rest of us to drop our defamation cases against Brian McNamee, exactly what is it going to take? A link to Monica?
