ARLINGTON, Texas — One of the great things about modern sports broadcasting is that they employ roughly 589 cameras at each World Series game. That gives Fox the ability to catch almost anything that happens at the ballpark, even if it offends some of the more delicate viewers in home.

Case in point: As Monday's Game 5 headed to commercial after the sixth inning, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter let loose with one of his profanity-filled, heat-of-the-moment outbursts. He had just induced Mike Napoli to fly out to deep center field and temporarily stop the bleeding after Adrian Beltre tied the game with a one-knee homer.

"[Expletive] you!" Carpenter appeared to scream. "You piece of [expletive]! [Expletive] you!"

Click here if you want to watch a replay, but be forewarned that the YouTube user translates the profanity in pretty loud fashion. (Translation: Don't watch this at work or around your little Carps. Also, it probably won't be long before it comes down.)

The reasonable assumption was that Carpenter was swearing at Napoli — who had homered off him in Game 1 — as he ran toward first base. So was he?

"Yeah, I guess," Napoli said when asked if he thought Carpenter was swearing at him. "I don't really know him. It's unfortunate if he was yelling at me because we've never had any things going on. So it's unfortunate, but it's not my — I'm not going to pursue anything."

Napoli, of course, would take more than his share of revenge later, throwing out Allen Craig in two key situations and hitting the game-winning double off Marc Rzepczynski in the eighth inning of Texas' 4-2 win. Carpenter, meanwhile, would have offered comment, but he was too busy eating a postgame meal of Irish Spring and Dial.
