It's not as if Minnesota Twins fans needed another reason to anticipate the arrival of center fielder Byron Buxton, but they got one: Buxton has been named the top prospect in baseball for the 2014 season on the annual top 100 assembled by Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis.

Buxton, 20, takes over the top spot from Jurickson Profar, the Texas Rangers youngster who topped the list last season. Buxton was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 amateur draft. Last year in Single-A, he hit .334 with 55 stolen bases, 49 extra-base hits and 77 RBIs. He's expected to start the 2014 season in Double-A.

Here's the top 20 from the list. As you'll see, some are names we've seen in the big-leagues briefly (Xander Bogaerts and Taijuan Walker, for example) and some are still counting down the days until their MLB debuts:

- Byron Buxton, OF (MIN)

- Xander Bogaerts, SS (BOS)

- Oscar Taveras, OF (STL)

- Miguel Sano, 3B (MIN)

- Archie Bradley, RHP (ARI)

- Taijuan Walker, RHP (SEA)

- Javier Baez, SS (CHC)

- Carlos Correa, SS (HOU)

- Kris Bryant, 3B (CHC)

- Francisco Lindor, SS (CLE)

- Noah Syndergaard, RHP (NYM)

- Addison Russell, SS (OAK)

- Gregory Polanco, OF (PIT)

- Jonathan Gray, RHP (COL)

- Nick Castellanos, 3B (DET)

- Jameson Taillon, RHP (PIT)

- Mark Appel, RHP (HOU)

- Albert Almora, OF (CHC)

- Robert Stephenson, RHP (CIN)

- Dylan Bundy, RHP (BAL) also counted which teams fared the best on its top 100 list. The Boston Red Sox had nine players on the list, while the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros each had seven, and the Pittsburgh Pirates had six. Using MLB's prospect point system (which awards a point for each spot on the list, 100 down to one), the Astros led the way with 439 points, followed by Red Sox and Cubs.
