It's been a few years since the amazing Tiger Woods commercial where he juggled a golf ball with a golf club, and what the MLB Fan Cave recently filmed the Atlanta Braves doing was ... nowhere near as amazing. But still fun. Deadspin's informal ratings seemed spot-on. Luis Ayala and Chris Johnson need more takes, or more practice. Nice job, Paul Janish.
However, shortstop Andrelton Simmons certainly came closest to capturing the essence of Tiger's commercial. Simmons dribbled the baseball with his bat and body about 23 times before whacking it into the outfield at Citi Field. Even though he's not Atlanta's best hitter, it figures that Simmons would be best at these sort of activities. He's a great athlete and the best defensive player at any position in the major leagues. Maybe the best in a long time.
When it comes to actual hitting, his bat is still ... developing. He's shown some power and needs to show a little more plate discipline. And he probably will. As a trickster, he earns an "A-" because Tiger is still "A+" in that department:
Other than Ervin Santana's dodgeball idea, this could be something to add to the All-Star festivities in years to come. I'd imagine that Joey Votto would be good at bat tricks, for example.
