It's hard to blame the people in the Oakland Athletics promotions department for this, but there's a pretty awkward giveaway scheduled for Saturday. The A's are giving the first 10,000 fans through the gates a free T-shirt of just-departed slugger Yoenis Cespedes.

Instead of a day celebrating the two-time reigning Home Run Derby champ, it'll be like a wake. Cespedes was a popular player, and many A's fans are sad to see him go, despite getting ace Jon Lester from the Red Sox in return. Lester, by the way, will be making his first A's start on Saturday.

The A's promotions team couldn't have foreseen, when they were penciling their giveaways on the calendar before the season, that Cespedes wouldn't be around in August. But baseball is surprising, especially in late July.

Now, fans will just have to pretend that "La Potencia" (which translates to "The Power") means something else. Maybe "We'll miss you."
