On the way to a function with one of his sponsors, two-time NL Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum(notes) gave the Stew a call to discuss how his offseason is going.

With the stipulation that no questions be asked about you-know-what, we ventured into Timmy's world for a brief chat about salary arbitration, Christmas and what Reebok is doing in response to Lincecum winning the Cy.

Q: You've won a Cy Young in each of your first two full seasons. Is it reasonable for you to say, "I should be the highest-paid pitcher in baseball"?

Tim Lincecum: I don't know how to ... I mean, I don't think I would ever say that. At the same time, I'm not the one negotiating. I'm just kind of sitting back, waiting and seeing how it goes this winter.

Q: Clubs can say nasty things about players at arbitration. Are you prepared to hear the bad things the Giants might say about you?

TL: Yeah. I think hold a higher standard for myself than I'm sure my employer does.

Q: If it comes down to a hearing, do you plan to go personally?

TL: [Pause]. I don't know. I just have to wait and see if it gets that far.

Q: Switching gears ... What's on your Christmas list?

TL: I don't have a Christmas list. I just want to be around the right people, my family. That's really what matters to me, I guess. That's just the way it's been in my family.

Q: What do you get Matt Cain(notes) for Christmas?

TL: What do I get Matt Cain for Christmas? [Laughs]. I don't know. That's a ... I have NO idea what to get Matt Cain for Christmas. I don't know.

Q: The next version of the video game you starred in last year has Evan Longoria(notes) on the cover. How does it feel to pass the torch?

TL: It's fine with me, that's just the way it goes. I'm happy for Evan; it's a great experience. I'm glad I got to go through it and now somebody else does.

Q: Do you have any idea what kind of catcher Buster Posey(notes) is going to make?

TL: For what short spurts we've gotten to see him, he's definitely shown potential. I got to see him in spring training. He had a pretty good year coming up through the minors. It was a tough spot for him to be in, I'm sure, at the end of the year being plugged in there. But he did his best and that's really all you can ask from him. Experience is going to be key with him, like with any player, so we'll see what happens.

Q: There have been reports of Pablo ["Kung Fu Panda"] Sandoval slimming down with some intense offseason training. But who's ever heard of a skinny Panda?

TL: I don't know; I didn't know (pandas) were all fat, either. I just thought they were fuzzy looking, cute little bears.

Q: So you'd describe Pablo Sandoval(notes) as "fuzzy looking and cute"?

TL: His hair's pretty fuzzy looking. He's got a cute little smile and he gives really good hugs.

Q: What has to happen for the Giants to win the NL West in 2010?

TL: I don't know, just beat out the rest of the competition. It's a hard question to ask because I don't know what's going to happen.

With what we did last year, I've said we've opened up a lot of eyes and even surprised ourselves a little bit. We just don't want to make that the main thing — getting to the playoffs — but we do have to take it one step at a time. I feel we have the potential to do that. We have the right kind of people making the decisions to put together a team like that. Given that, I can't get ahead of myself. We'll just have to wait and see.

Q: Have you gotten a haircut lately?

TL: Yeah, I got a haircut a week and a half ago.

Q: That's kind of disappointing to hear.

TL: I didn't cut much off. It was just getting unhealthy. A lot of people know, if you grow out your hair long enough, you're going to get dead ends, so you're going to have to cut those off.

Q: So, Reebok is making a big donation to the Junior Giants in honor of you winning the Cy Young again?

TL: Yeah, they're donating $10,000 worth of product and equipment — whether that be cleats, bats, clothing, that kind of stuff. I've known about the Junior Giants program ever since I've been involved with the Giants. It's great to give back with all of it. The kids look up to us.
