We've already learned of one irony stemming from the big trade on Monday that saw the Chicago White Sox ship closer Addison Reed to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for slugging prospect Matt Davidson. Now comes this interesting twist: The two players actually spend the offseason working out in the same training facility and have developed a friendship as a result.
This interesting fact came to light on Friday when Davidson took a break from his workout to appear on MLB Network's Intentional Talk with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar. Early in the interview, another person could be seen showing off behind Davidson, which prompted Rose to ask, "Who's the knucklehead who just walked past you doing dumbbell curls?"
Unbeknownst to Rose, it was actually Addison Reed.
"That's the guy I just got traded for," Davidson responded.
Unsure if that could possibly be true, Rose asked that Reed answer what number he wore for the White Sox last season to confirm his identity. Once satisfied, the interview continued with both men answering questions about the awkwardness of the trade, their future matchups against each other and which team got the better end of the deal. They got only an answer from Reed on the latter.
The segment then concludes with Reed and Davidson holding a ceremonial 'trading of the jerseys' since a press conference to officially announce their deal has yet to take place. Unfortunately, we don't get to see what Davidson looks like in Reed's XXXL top or the attempt by Reed to fit into Davidson's XL, but it's still a fun ending to an unexpectedly entertaining segment.
