Baseball fans who are underwhelmed by reviews for this weekend's release of Clint Eastwood's latest curmudgeon vehicle, "Trouble With The Curve," might find a bit of hope in the release of the trailer for "42." As you can see above, it's Hollywood's latest attempt at telling the Jackie Robinson story with Chadwick Boseman playing the Brooklyn Dodgers' barrier-breaking second baseman and Harrison Ford playing Dodgers GM Branch Rickey.
The short trailer makes it hard to tell whether the film will appeal to hardcore baseball fans. The inclusion of a modern-day Jay-Z soundtrack beat and showing Robinson flipping his bat would suggest that answer is "no," but Boseman looks like he's pulling a good Robinson impersonation and it'll be interesting to see how he interacts with Ford as Rickey. I suspect the relationship between the two is at the core of the film and the chemistry between the two actors will determine if it's a critical success or not.
"42" is expected to hit theaters on April 12 , 2013, just a few days before the 66th anniversary of Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier.
