With perfect district record on the line, coach tells seniors to skip game
When the final district game of the season had to be rescheduled, the new timeslot interfered with the Flower Mound (Texas) High School senior prom. Coach Mark Larriba tried to reschedule for earlier in the day, but the game was Plano West's senior night.
Not wanting to interfere with that, either, Larriba made a quick decision: He told his seniors to go to prom. All 14 of them obliged, and a few underclassmen earned their first taste of varsity action.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Larriba called up three J.V. pitchers. Plano West came out on top, winning 10-0 and ending Flower Mound's perfect record in the district, but no one seemed to mind.
“It’s about the kids. There’s more to life than winning,” Larriba told the Morning News. “They were so excited. They could be stress-free to go to their prom. And then the kids that we were bringing up, a couple of them looked like they were going to start crying they were so excited."
Flower Mound is now 25-5-1 overall and 15-1 in the district. Props to Larriba for recognizing that it was just a game. There are many games in a season, there's only one senior prom.
