Virginia H.S. baller nails three dunks in state championship

Juan Thornhill of Altavista (Va.) High School more than enjoyed the final game of his basketball career on Wednesday. The 6-foot-1 senior dunked not once, not twice, but three times as he helped propel his team to its third-straight Virgina High School League Group 1A state title.

He showed that he can dunk any which way he wants, flying through the lane for a two-handed slam on an inbounds pass, then a single-handed monster jam, then capping it with an alley-oop off the backboard.

That final dunk was definitely the most exciting, according to the News Advance.

With a little less than four minutes remaining in the Colonels’ 57-44 victory at VCU’s Siegel Center, Meche Maulbeck turned a steal near midcourt into an alley-oop dunk off the backboard to a trailing Juan Thornhill. The play sent the Altavista fanbase into pandemonium and the celebration that soon followed lasted well after the final buzzer sounded, finalizing the coronation of the Colonels’ third straight state championship.

Thornhill will play football at the University of Virginia next year.
