Richard LeCounte has played just three games of organized high school football, and already the nation's top college programs are lining up for his services -- in 2017.
The Hinesville (Ga.) Liberty County High freshman phenom already has enough jaw-dropping plays for MaxPreps to piece together a highlight video. His first interception -- a ridiculous one-handed grab snatched from the air like one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons -- was probably enough on its own to earn a Division I scholarship or two.
And perhaps it did. LeCounte already owns offers from Florida and Ohio State, and Urban Meyer delivered the Buckeyes news himself, according to Rivals.com. Of course, plenty of recruiters have been on hand since Game 1, because Liberty County also features Raekwon McMillan, Rivals.com's No. 1 inside linebacker in the Class of 2014.
"It has been exciting," LeCounte told Rivals.com, indicating he may follow McMillan wherever he ultimately decides to go. "I know it was going to be coming at some point. Raekwon was telling me that it was going to be a lot different from the other lower ranks of football that I had been playing coming up."
Still, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety plays as if he's still in Pop Warner. Leading the Panthers to a 3-0 start in Georgia's Class AAAA, LeCounte has already accumulated 30 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles on the defensive end while averaging 11.4 yards per touch as a quarterback, receiver, running back and kick returner.
