Texas high school stadium's cost dwarfs Wrigley, Fenway, Lambeau

You don't need to have watched all of "Friday Night Lights" to understand that high school football runs deep in Texas, the way that Red Sox fandom dominates Boston or SEC football fandom permeates the South. But even by those rabid standards, McKinney, Texas is opening eyes and dropping jaws with its entry into the Texas High School Football Arms Race: a $62.8 million, 12,000-seat stadium.

Voters in McKinney just approved a secondary bond for the construction of a stadium to serve the McKinney Integrated School District. Here's an artist's rendering of the stadium:

Worth noting: this is the second $60-plus million stadium under construction in Texas, joining one being constructed by the Katy school district. There's also another $60 million behemoth, Allen's 18,000-seat stadium, located a mere four miles from the McKinney site. McKinney's will be shared by three teams: McKinney North, McKinney High, and McKinney Boyd, as well as any other high schools that open in the area.

Check out the construction costs, in 2016 dollars, of some notable stadiums of the past:

• Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs: $5.91 million

• Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox: $15.9 million

• Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers: $4.72 million

Granted, this isn't quite an apples-to-apples comparison. Those costs are for bare-bones, non-technology-enabled construction, but still: McKinney is twice as much as those three legends combined.

You already know where you stand on a school district spending tens of millions of dollars on a football stadium. One can hope that there are a few dollars left over for other educational concerns, of course, to make sure there's a library the football team can be proud of.
