Player who swung helmet removed from high school team

A New Jersey high school player who ripped another player's helmet off and hit him with it has been removed from the team.

Police are investigating the incident, in which a Linden High School player tore the helmet off an Immaculata High player and appeared to hit him with the helmet. The injured player later received 10 stitches. Neither player has been named because of their ages.

"The brutal action taken by this young man is simply unacceptable and will not be condoned," Linden School Superintendent Danny Robertozzi said in a statement. The school board is pursuing the "severest disciplinary measures permitted under law," he added.

The player was penalized during the game for unsportsmanlike conduct, but was not removed from the game.
